Terms of use

By using MegaDebate you agree to these terms. The short version: disagree with ideas, not people. No fights.

MegaDebate is a product of AppDevNest Inc., which owns and operates it. AppDevNest Inc. is a Canadian federal corporation based in Markham, Ontario (“we”, “us”; see company details). These terms are an agreement between you and AppDevNest Inc..

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it.
  • Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if someone else gets into your account.
  • One person, one personal account. Business accounts are for businesses that want to sponsor debates.

House rules

Argue as hard as you like about the question. These are not allowed, in any language:

  • Attacks on people: insults, harassment, threats, or hate against anyone, including other debaters.
  • Swearing and profanity, including disguised spellings. Mild words like “damn” are fine.
  • Spam, scams, and misleading or deliberately false information presented as fact.
  • Sexual or violent content, and anything illegal or that breaks someone else’s rights (for example, posting someone’s private details).
  • Pretending to be someone else, or using extra accounts to get around a suspension.

Moderation

Posts are checked automatically before they appear, and anyone can report content. Our moderators can remove debates, arguments and ads, and suspend accounts for 1, 7 or 30 days or permanently. When we remove something of yours we tell you why. Moderators never edit what you wrote. If you think we got it wrong, write to support@onlydebate.com.

To slow down spam, new accounts have limits for their first day: no links, up to 3 debates, and up to 15 arguments and replies an hour. Posts from accounts less than a week old are hidden for review after two reports instead of three.

Child sexual abuse material is never allowed. We close the account at once, keep the material and account details as evidence as the law requires, and report it to the authorities.

Your content

You own what you post. By posting, you let MegaDebate show, store, and share it on the site and in links to it (for example, a preview when someone shares a debate), for as long as it’s on MegaDebate. Only post what you have the right to post. Once other people have argued on your debate, or a business sponsors it, you can no longer edit or fully delete it, so the discussion still makes sense.

MegaDebateAI, our AI, can start debates and suggest hashtags. What it writes is labelled, and like everything here, it can be wrong.

Private rooms

  • A private room belongs to one email domain (a university, school, company or other organization). To join, you verify an email address there with a code we send to it. Only add an address you’re allowed to use.
  • A verification lasts one year. After that you can still read your rooms, but you can’t post, argue or vote in them until you verify again.
  • The house rules apply in rooms too, and our moderators handle reports there. A room’s creator can rename it and remove members, but can’t edit or delete anyone’s posts. We can remove a whole room that breaks these terms.
  • Room debates are shown only to members. Members can still see, copy or share what you post, so don’t post anything you’d never want to leave the room.

Classes

  • Anyone can start a class and becomes its teacher. Students join with the class code. The minimum age of 16 applies to classes too.
  • The teacher sees each student’s arguments, replies and activity on class assignments, can give marks and feedback, and can download them. Teachers are responsible for how they use that information, including their school’s rules.
  • Class debates are shown only to the class. The house rules apply, and our moderators handle reports. Assignments close at their deadline.
  • Classroom Pro adds AI feedback on each student’s work and AI Judge verdicts on assignments (free for the whole class), and includes MegaDebate Plus for the teacher. It costs $9.99 USD a month or $99.00 USD a year (plus any tax that applies), charged by card through Stripe and renewed automatically each month or year until you cancel. The first time you subscribe, the first 14 days are free; cancel before the trial ends and you won’t be charged.
  • You can cancel any time from Manage billing; Classroom Pro stays on until the end of the month you’ve paid for. We don’t refund part-months, except where the law requires it. AI feedback is an AI’s opinion: check it before you rely on it for grades.
  • School plans let one person buy Classroom Pro for several teachers: $7.99 USD per seat per month, at least 3 seats, billed monthly by card through Stripe until cancelled, with the first 14 days free the first time. Changing the number of seats is prorated for the rest of the month. The buyer adds teachers by email; a seat’s code works only for an account with that email. Seats have Classroom Pro while the plan is active, and lose it when it ends. School plans.

AI Judge

  • On a debate with enough arguments, anyone can ask the AI Judge for a summary of each side’s strongest points and a verdict on which side argued better. It’s made by an AI model from the debate’s arguments and replies.
  • It’s an AI’s opinion, not a fact, and it can be wrong. It judges how well each side argued, not which answer is true, and it never judges the people. Don’t rely on it for decisions about health, money, law or safety.
  • The opening of each summary is free. The full verdict costs $2.99 USD (plus any tax that applies), paid once by card through Stripe. It then stays unlocked for your account. A later, fresh verdict on the same debate is a separate purchase.
  • MegaDebate Plus unlocks every full verdict while it’s active, for $4.99 USD a month (plus any tax that applies), charged by card through Stripe and renewed automatically each month until you cancel. There’s no free trial. Cancel any time from Manage billing: Plus stays on until the end of the month you’ve paid for, then verdicts lock again, except ones you bought on their own. We don’t refund part-months, except where the law requires it. Classroom Pro includes Plus.
  • Free Plus for sponsored debates. When a business sponsors a public debate you started, you get 30 days of MegaDebate Plus free, and another 30 days if it reaches 500 views while sponsored (one view per person per day; your own visits don’t count). Each renewed sponsorship period earns the same again. Free months add up, to at most 90 days ahead. They have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and end if your account is closed. We may withhold rewards gained by faking views or sponsorships, and we may change these rewards for the future.
  • Because the verdict is shown right after payment, purchases aren’t refundable, except where the law requires it, if you were charged twice for the same verdict (we refund the extra charge automatically), or when our payment provider refunds a purchase (for example during a legal cooling-off period or to settle a dispute). A refunded verdict locks again. Questions: support@onlydebate.com.
  • Who sells it. AI Judge verdicts, MegaDebate Plus, Classroom Pro and school plans may be sold through Stripe as the merchant of record. When they are, Stripe’s name appears at checkout and on your card statement, Stripe works out and collects any sales tax, VAT or GST, sends your receipts and invoices, and handles payment questions and disputes; Stripe’s terms for that purchase apply alongside these. Business sponsorships are always sold by us.

Business sponsorships, refunds and credit

  • A sponsorship puts your ad under the vote box of one debate for 30 days and costs $9.99 USD, plus any tax that applies where your business is (worked out at checkout from your billing address; a valid business tax ID from outside Canada means the reverse charge applies and no tax is added). Near the end, you have the first right to renew; after it ends, any business can take the slot.
  • Ads must follow our ad rules, which are part of these terms. Some categories are never allowed (for example political ads, alcohol, gambling, crypto, adult content and weapons) and are removed at once. For rules that can be fixed (misleading claims, imitation, links that don’t match), we email you and give you 48 hours to change the ad first. We check links against Google’s list of unsafe sites and turn off any link that fails (your image keeps showing).
  • If moderators remove the debate within 48 hours of your latest payment, we refund that payment the way you paid it. After 48 hours, the unused days become credit instead.
  • Credit can be spent on any sponsorship for 12 months and is used automatically at checkout. If it doesn’t cover the whole price, at least $0.50 USD is charged to your card. Credit has no cash value and can’t be transferred.
  • No refund or credit if we remove your ad for breaking the ad rules (at once, or because it wasn’t fixed in time), or if you delete your business account (any remaining credit is lost).
  • Sponsorships are paid to AppDevNest Inc. through Stripe. AI Judge verdicts, MegaDebate Plus, Classroom Pro and school plans may be sold by Stripe as merchant of record on AppDevNest Inc.’s behalf (see Who sells it above). Questions about a charge: support@onlydebate.com.

Ending

You can stop using MegaDebate and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. See the privacy policy for what happens to your information.

The legal part

MegaDebate is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of mistakes, and debates and arguments are the opinions of the people who post them, not ours. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer protection law. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
